Almost like a carbon copy of the first four stages, the UCI World Tour cyclists let go of a group of seven cyclists who were not at the top of the general standings and they dedicated themselves to riding and waiting for the right moment to go out and look for the leaders in the last hour of the race.

There were seven escapees (six continentals and one Pro) and although, at times, one of them, Rosas, was ahead in the leaderboard, the truth is that there were more than 170 kilometers to put things in order, especially taking into account that it was a stage of constant ascent and the appearance of climbers, especially Colombians, was expected.

With the exception of the magnificent triumph of Miguel López, the rest of the privileged places went to UCI World Tour cyclists: 2nd Filippo Ganna (INEOS GRENADIERS), 3rd Sergio Higuita (BORA-Hansgrohe), 4th Egan Bernal (INEOS GRENADIERS) , 5th Einer Rubio (MOVISTAR TEAM).

None of the cycling fans were disappointed in a stage definition with the candidates they imagined. López left them all without a chance, beating the Italian Ganna by half a minute and his compatriot Higuita by 38 seconds.

After the queen stage of the Vuelta a San Juan, he changed everything in the general classification, ranking Filippo Ganna (INEOS – GRENADIERS) as the best UCI World Tour, 7 seconds behind the lead; 3rd is the man from BORA – HANSGROHE), Sergio Higuita, 21 seconds away, 4th Egan Bernal (INEOS – GRENADIERS) 27 seconds away, 5th Einer Rubio (MOVISTAR TEAM), 27 seconds away.

The sixth stage will be held this Tuesday, January 28, starting from Route 40 in front of the Vicente Chancay velodrome at 4:08 p.m. in a neutralized start and 4:15 p.m. in a real start from Route 40 and 5th street. The finish will be in front of the brand new velodrome, after traveling 144.9 kilometers.
